CAWA works with the WA Government to keep climbing recognised, supported and accessible across the state. Here's what that looks like.

State Active Recreation Organisation (SARO)
In June 2023 the WA Government formally recognised CAWA as the State Active Recreation Organisation for outdoor rock climbing. In plain terms, we're the recognised body for outdoor climbing in WA - the organisation the government turns to on anything climbing related.
The recognition gives us a direct line to government. That means access to a dedicated recreation advisor, state grant programs, and workshops for recognised recreation bodies. All of it helps us do more for climbing across WA.
Memorandum of Understanding with DBCA
DBCA manages WA's national parks and reserves - home to many of our best crags, from Kalbarri to the Porongurups. In 2022 we signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the department. It's a shared commitment to keep climbing areas open, safe and well cared for.
Under the MOU we work together on site access, climber education, environmental care and clean-ups. DBCA also backs our funding applications and gives us early word on any changes that could affect access to climbing sites.
