About event
Take your lead climbing outside and learn the systems, skills, and judgment needed to climb safely at the crag.
Ready to move beyond the gym and start climbing outdoors with confidence?
Join us for a practical outdoor climbing workshop at Mountain Quarry designed specifically for experienced indoor lead climbers looking to make the transition to real rock.
This workshop is aimed at climbers who already hold a valid lead pass from at least one Perth climbing gym and are confident lead climbing and lead belaying indoors. Throughout the day, participants will gain hands-on experience with the systems, hazards, and decision-making involved in outdoor sport climbing.

Topics covered include weather and route assessment, understanding bolts and anchors, outdoor communication, safe clipping and belaying practices, anchor cleaning, lowering techniques, and managing common outdoor climbing scenarios. There will be plenty of time on the wall to apply these skills in a supportive and supervised environment.
By the end of the session, you’ll have a much clearer understanding of how outdoor climbing differs from the gym environment and what is required to climb outdoors safely and responsibly.
This is an excellent stepping stone towards joining future CAWA outdoor climbing trips and building confidence on real rock.
