Red sandstone, committed climbing and four days of connection in Kalbarri.
About event
Red sandstone, committed climbing and four days of connection in Kalbarri.
Join the It Goes Girls community for a women-focused climbing adventure among the red sandstone walls and spectacular river gorges of Kalbarri National Park.
This weekend is all about climbing, community and enjoying a few days away with other women who love being outdoors. Whether you are aiming for a personal project, exploring Kalbarri for the first time, or simply keen to spend a weekend climbing with a great group of women, we hope you leave with new memories, new climbing partners and a few good stories to tell.
To make the journey more manageable, participants may wish to start travelling to Kalbarri on Thursday 27 August rather than completing the full drive in one day. There are a number of camping options along the way, including Arrowsmith Rest Area, Ken's Camp (free camping), Lake Indoon Recreational Centre and the Enneabba Recreation Centre. Some sites operate on a first-come, first-served basis, while others accept bookings, so participants are encouraged to make their own arrangements if they plan to break up the journey.
Kalbarri offers a unique climbing experience in Western Australia, with striking red sandstone walls, steep sport routes and adventurous terrain set above the Murchison River Gorge. Areas such as Z Bend and The Promenade offer a mix of climbing styles, with opportunities for both sport and trad climbing in a remote, visually spectacular environment.

20190603 Kalbarri 101
This is a self-supported, peer-organised trip designed for climbers who are comfortable operating independently in an outdoor environment. While there will be an SPG in attendance, climbing opportunities suitable for complete beginners are limited, and participants should be self-sufficient and capable of managing their own climbing objectives, safety and logistics.
We warmly welcome women of all climbing backgrounds and experience levels. However, less experienced climbers should ensure they have arranged to climb with a competent and experienced partner before attending. Kalbarri's climbing is generally not well suited to those who are new to outdoor climbing without appropriate support and mentorship.
We will be camping at the Z Bend climbers’ camp, with registration and camping fees ($10 per night) included in your booking. CAWA will coordinate the required Parks registration on behalf of participants. The campground has limited capacity and operates on a controlled access basis to protect the surrounding environment and wildlife.

Requirements
At CAWA, safety is our top priority. All participants must adhere to the following guidelines:
Independent climbers are responsible for themselves.
All participants must
sign a Deed of Release and Indemnity (if they haven't already),
register by booking camping here, and
complete the participant's form below.
Inexperienced climbers must partner with an experienced climber prior to the event.
A parent, guardian, or responsible/qualified adult must accompany climbers under 18 years old.
If you’re new to climbing, be sure to check out CAWA Trips for additional information and reach out to us via email.
Outside of climbing, expect relaxed evenings at camp, time to explore the gorge and coastal areas, and a strong social atmosphere across the long weekend.
CAWA members only. Limited spots available. Booking essential.
Winter is prime climbing season, with cool temperatures, solid friction, and no flies. And for climbers looking to reduce visual impact on Kalbarri’s vibrant sandstone, we recommend using coloured chalk, such as the Redpoint Coloured Chalk Ball (refillable and environmentally conscious).
Please note:
Kalbarri is not suitable for beginners unless accompanied by a competent and experienced climbing partner. Route access often requires lead climbing, and the ability to set top ropes is limited. The climbing tends toward moderate to hard grades, and a solid understanding of outdoor climbing safety and techniques is essential.
